Yes Y Can: Training America's Largest Generation to be Effective Workplace Leaders
By 2016, Generation Y (or Millennials), the generation born between 1978-2000, will be the largest generation in the workplace. Millennials have been branded spoiled, entitled, disengaged, lazy, and whiny. Training and management solutions often emphasize more oversight, stricter rules, and re-shaping behaviors. The prevailing message is that Millennials lack a handful of necessary abilities and values that through a little effort, usually in the form of more parent-like authority and supervision, can be fixed. In this 1.5 hour interactive workshop led by ASTD-Las Vegas Vice President of Community Affairs Coach Alexia Vernon, explore how to meet emerging leaders where they are and take them where they need to be. Discover how to harness Millennials’ strengths and partner with them to minimize areas for growth so that our next generation of leaders do not repeat the social, economic, and environmental mistakes they have just lived through. Learn proven strategies for empowering Millennials to speak effectively across communication contexts, dance between long and short-term thinking, give and receive action-oriented feedback, create cultures of intrapreneurship and innovation, and act from a place of integrity.
